Important Update: ACA Subsidies Are Not Going Away — Just the Temporary Enhancements

Sep 9, 2025 | Individual Insurance, News

September 9, 2025
You may be seeing headlines about ACA subsidies “expiring” — but here’s what you need to know:

Subsidies for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are not ending.
The core financial assistance that helps millions afford Marketplace plans will remain in place for 2026 and beyond.

What is set to expire at the end of 2025 are the temporary “enhanced subsidies” that were added during the pandemic to make coverage even more affordable. These enhancements:

  • Removed the income cap for subsidy eligibility
  • Increased the amount of assistance for many households

Unless Congress takes action, these enhancements will phase out, and the subsidy rules will return to their pre-2021 levels.

💬 What This Means for You

  • You will still qualify for ACA subsidies if you’re eligible under the original guidelines (based on income).
  • Some people may see higher premiums in 2026 — especially those with middle or higher incomes who benefited from the enhanced credits.
  • There’s still time: Congress is considering proposals to extend the enhanced subsidies before they expire.

🧘‍♀️ No Need to Panic

The ACA is not going away, and most people will still get help paying for coverage. If the enhanced subsidies expire, it will feel more like a rollback to how things worked before 2021 — not a total loss of support.

We’ll continue to keep you updated as the situation develops and help you navigate any changes for 2026.
